Info Product Coach
June 2, 2008
Just as I wrote my last blog entry I got a call. The person wanted to know if an information marketing coach was the same as an info product coach. Not really, was my answer. The information marketing coach concentrates on the entire business of a person’s intellectual property.
The info product coach is more concerned about the SPECIFICS of info products WITHIN the total information marketing “empire” of a given individual. To make it clear, an info product coach is much more narrow in scope than the information marketing coach. An information product coach CAN do the job of the info product coach, but not necessarily vice versa. Clear? I hope so.
Information Marketing Coach
June 2, 2008
I do a lot of coaching in the information marketing field. I am, however, VERY selective. The reason why I won’t take on just anyone as a client is because I am serious about wanting to help people sell more info products. A lot of coaches will take on as many people as will pay them. I don’t do this. If you’re looking for an information marketing coach, ask the various people you interview how many active clients they have. Then you decide if you’ll fall through the cracks.
Information marketing coaching is not just about knowledge, but about a good personality match. If you get the most competent person on the topic of selling info products and you don’t “mesh” well with them, you will probably not have very great success.
The two things you should be looking for in an info products coach are someone who knows their stuff AND someone who you can get along with personally. This combination is sometimes HARD to find.
Information Marketing Tip
June 2, 2008
If you sell information products of any kind, here’s a tip for you.
The money is always in the list. How do you get a bigger list? You devise a give away that blows people away. I did exactly that with my own material a few years back and got over 72,000 new subscribers. The link I sent them to was www.FredGleeck.com/ebooks.
Two important things made this work. I gave them really great solid content for free. I also ASKED them to spread the word to others if they thought I had delivered on my promise of great free content. I guess I did because the response to this information marketing approach worked really well. Try it for yourself!
Seminar Marketing Techniques That Work
June 2, 2008
I do a lot of seminars and seminar marketing. There are a bunch of seminar marketing techniques that work and a whole lot that do NOT. Here is a list of things to consider doing that work:
1. Do teleseminars with the various speakers who will be speaking at your event. Spread them out every week or so and start about 90 days before your event. If you are the only speaker then do multiple teleseminars yourself but do a different topic each time.
2. Use lots of Testimonials. There is no better way to market a seminar than to use testimonials. Use audio, video AND text. The more the better, but make sure that the people and the comments are REAL.
3. Offer a strong guarantee. The better the guarantee, the easier it will be to market a seminar.
4. Reduced price for early enrollment. Always a good idea to give people a financial incentive to sign up early for your events.
5. Bonuses. People love to get additional STUFF at no extra charge. Make sure your bonuses relate to the seminar you are doing.
6. Clear copy. Write your copy so people will know exactly what benefits they will get by attending.
7. Read my book! Pick up a copy of Marketing and Promoting Your Own Seminars and Workshops.
Information Marketing Seminars
June 2, 2008
I’ve been selling info products for over 25 years at this point. That’s a good bit of time. There are now a LOT of people trying to get you to attend their information marketing seminars. Most of them are over hyped garbage.
There are some well known “gurus” who teach these seminars and often times give very little real, useable content, but instead try and sell people on their NEXT event. Great. Just what we need in this industry, more FLIM-FLAM! Not surprising, but VERY true.
I can now count on one hand the people I know and fully trust who do information marketing seminars. Well, let me take that back. I have a FEW people I trust in the information marketing field. There is NO ONE out there doing information marketing seminars (other than myself) that I feel comfortable recommending.
I know this sounds terribly self-serving, but I would LOVE to recommend information marketing seminars by others, BUT I CAN’T!
Most of the people who do them are unsavory characters who rarely deliver what they promise. As an info products expert, this really pisses me off. I don’t mind other people succeeding, but not at the expense of the TRUTH.
Writing Info Products
June 2, 2008
I do a lot of writing. I’m constantly writing info products of varying lengths. The most simple example of this is a short blog entry like this one. Although I’m not selling this information, I’m selling you on believing that I know what I’m talking about. If I do that right, I have a chance to sell you something bigger and “better” later.
Next up the ladder is writing articles. This is a great thing to do for a number of reasons. It can help you build your list and it’s also very effective at getting you some name recognition.
Longer reports on the next step up the “writing info products” ladder. They are usually anywhere from 7-10 pages in length and are concentrated and specific about a given topic area.
The biggest projects in the writing info products area are books. Books take a while to write but are the ultimate credibility builder and enhancer. I’ve written close to 20 at this point and recommend that you do the same. For more on this topic, take a look at: www.SelfPublishingSuccess.com.
Good luck and happy writing.
Selling Information By Mail
June 2, 2008
Just because your primary strategy to sell your info products is ONLINE doesn’t mean you should abandon the idea of selling information by Mail. Yes, snail mail! As more and more people get more and more CRAP in their email box, the chances of their responding to those messages decreases.
My suggestion is that you mix your online strategy for selling info products with your offline strategy.
I would suggest that you test with postcards first. They are cheap and easy to send out. Testing an offer that way is very cost effective and will allow you to see whether or not it works. If it does, then feel free to roll out the fancy, multi-colored direct mail pieces. But do that SLOWLY as well.
Selling Info Products on Ebay
June 2, 2008
Anyone who truly understands info products should be selling those products on Ebay. Here’s why. Ebay is one of THE most heavily trafficked sites. Whenever I’m doing one of my information products seminars I always tell people: when you find traffic, JUMP IN FRONT OF IT! That’s true in spades for Ebay.
As a marketer of information products you have to understand the “funnel system” to fully comprehend why it makes sense to sell your info products on Ebay. Your goal is to capture names. By selling some of your less expensive products on Ebay you are now capturing leads at NEGATIVE cost. In other words, people are paying you to become prospects for your more expensive products and services.
The intelligent use of Ebay to sell info products is to sell a VERY inexpensive “front-end” product. Deliver with great content, keep that person on your list and then UPSELL them to your other more expensive and higher profit info products.
Ebay makes total sense for the information marketer who understands that it isn’t the first sale that makes you money, but the ongoing revenue you get from a buyer. Sell your info products on Ebay. It only makes sense. Some people actually produce one or more info products specifically to sell on Ebay. Not a bad idea.
Seminar Marketing Ideas
June 1, 2008
Over the past 3 weeks I’ve learned some very effective means of getting yourself top rankings in the search engines. As someone who wrote the book on “Marketing and Promoting Your Own Seminars and Workshops”, I am constantly looking for opportunities. My own results makes me want to share those ideas with others.
The first thing I did was to select a domain name for this prospective seminar. I then reserved the domain name: www.SEOMainEvent.com. Other terms were not available that may have worked better. That was the best one that I could find. If you’re looking to market and promote your own seminars, then this process should work for you. Step 1: Reserve and appropriate domain name.
Next, start blogging on the topic. This will help you to develop content and collect the names of people who are interested in the topic.
Finally, you can pick a date to do a seminar based on your recent knowledge. Do all of these things and marketing seminars will be MUCH easier for you to do.
Selling Info Product Secrets
June 1, 2008
I just googled some of the keywords that I “go after” for my own business. One of the sites that came up talked about selling information products. I clicked on it. I was directed to a squeeze page that attempted to get me to give him my name and email address in exchange for what appeared to be a GREAT product. I quickly did as instructed, expecting a tremendously helpful guide to selling my info products.
WOW!
What an incredibly disappointment. I got an “ebook” (more a simple report) that listed 50 things that I had to do to succeed as an information marketing seller. Each one of the 50 items listed was a pithy little trite saying that a motivational speaker could have come up with in his/her sleep. The information I was given was 1000% WORTHLESS.
It was, of course, attempting to get me on their list and then sell me something later. As an information marketing person, this is a good idea. HOWEVER, if all you do is give people a lot of CRAP when they request something free, then you are in trouble. DEEP TROUBLE!
What you give people for free in your information marketing business should be GREAT. Not just good, but great. Why? Because people will NEVER buy from you if you give away CRAP. Even if it’s free!
What should YOU do? In your goal to sell lots of info products I suggest that you concentrate on creating the absolute best material you can. Even if it’s free. Do that and your success is assured.
