Marketing Seminars

June 3, 2008

If you market and promote your own seminars and events, you need to know THIS critical formula:

TR=SR+PS+CB

Total revenue as a seminar marketer is equal to Seminar Registration plus Product Sales plus Coaching or Consulting Business. There you have it the KEY to marketing and promoting your own seminars in a formula.

Seminar registration at your events is done through a variety of means. In my case, I’ve built an email list to market and promote my events. I suggest you do likewise. It will certainly cut your costs for doing event.

Product Sales can be tricky for the ethical person doing seminar marketing. They are always concerned that they will be perceived as “hucksterish” for doing it. Not true if you deliver good solid content FIRST.

Then there is the coaching or consulting business. This should flow logically from the seminar that you do. Don’t push it. People will recoil and NOT buy your services.

Try and make it to one of my events like the Seminar on Seminars to really perfect your skills.

Seminar Marketing Techniques That Work

June 2, 2008

I do a lot of seminars and seminar marketing. There are a bunch of seminar marketing techniques that work and a whole lot that do NOT. Here is a list of things to consider doing that work:

1. Do teleseminars with the various speakers who will be speaking at your event. Spread them out every week or so and start about 90 days before your event. If you are the only speaker then do multiple teleseminars yourself but do a different topic each time.

2. Use lots of Testimonials. There is no better way to market a seminar than to use testimonials. Use audio, video AND text. The more the better, but make sure that the people and the comments are REAL.

3. Offer a strong guarantee. The better the guarantee, the easier it will be to market a seminar.

4. Reduced price for early enrollment. Always a good idea to give people a financial incentive to sign up early for your events.

5. Bonuses. People love to get additional STUFF at no extra charge. Make sure your bonuses relate to the seminar you are doing.

6. Clear copy. Write your copy so people will know exactly what benefits they will get by attending.

7. Read my book! Pick up a copy of Marketing and Promoting Your Own Seminars and Workshops.

Seminar Marketing Ideas

June 1, 2008

Over the past 3 weeks I’ve learned some very effective means of getting yourself top rankings in the search engines. As someone who wrote the book on “Marketing and Promoting Your Own Seminars and Workshops”, I am constantly looking for opportunities. My own results makes me want to share those ideas with others.

The first thing I did was to select a domain name for this prospective seminar. I then reserved the domain name: www.SEOMainEvent.com. Other terms were not available that may have worked better. That was the best one that I could find. If you’re looking to market and promote your own seminars, then this process should work for you. Step 1: Reserve and appropriate domain name.

Next, start blogging on the topic. This will help you to develop content and collect the names of people who are interested in the topic.

Finally, you can pick a date to do a seminar based on your recent knowledge. Do all of these things and marketing seminars will be MUCH easier for you to do.

Info Products are Best

May 20, 2008

If you’re a subject matter expert, there is nothing better you can market than info products. I’ve been selling information for over 25 years now and can’t imagine being in another business. The key if you’re just getting started is to learn a system that can be replicated over and over again. Be careful because there are a ton of POSERS out there who haven’t done a whole lot themselves who claim they can help YOU create and marketing your own info products. I’d be skeptical if I were you. Ask them how MANY info products they’ve produced for themselves and others. In my case it is getting close to 3,000 audios, videos and books for myself and my clients. The numbers aren’t everything, but there are a lot of people out there who have absolutely no background, so beware. I have an event coming up that may be of interest to you. Take a look at the Fred Info Bootcamp and let me know your thoughts.

Marketing Sherpa? What is it? Animal? Vegetable? Mineral?

May 19, 2008

Sherpas are guides. Therefore, marketing sherpas must be marketing guides. As you consider who you will listen to in the area of marketing and more specifically information marketing, I need to caution you. Do not be fooled by those who claim to have knowledge but have no PROOF to back it up. There are a boatload of people who make claims in every field. Information marketers are no different. BUT, there are a lot of charlatans out there. So, when looking for a “sherpa” in any field, make sure and do your due diligence. Without doing that you may be guided into a briar patch!

Information Marketing Profits

May 18, 2008

Latest Incident about earning profits with Information Marketing:

I just got my latest reprimand from a guy who inquired about my consulting services. He found some typos and errors in my work. WOW! Surprise, surprise!

If you haven’t heard me say this before: DONE IS BETTER THAN PERFECT!

The attempt that traditional authors and information marketers make is in concentrating on the WRONG things.

What would you rather have? A book or information product that was perfect in every way or one that makes you money?

Obvious answer.

BUT, maybe you say I’m setting up a STRAW MAN argument.

That’s I’ve set up something that’s easy to knock down but under closer examination doesn’t hold up in terms of veracity. Not true hear.

Let’s examine further.

IF I were to take the time to check all of my books for spelling and grammatical errors and edit (God forbid) all of my audio programs and meticulously edit all of my videos, I’d be STARVING.

I’ve just recorded my 8th video with a guy who is soon to become the Wolfgang Puck of Raw Foods. His name is Dan McDonald. Remember that name. He will be a HUGE deal one day in the not too distant future.

I was having a discussion with Dan and Krista (his partner) the other day. They asked about whether I would edit a certain part of the video where there was a little screw up. My answer: HECK NO! Actually the first word was different.

I told them that after we sell 1,000 units of that particular video we’d go back and reshoot that one. Between now and then let’s just stick to our knitting and crank out products to sell.

People who GET IT understand this. I’m talking about both sides of the equation. Buyers of your videos, audios and other info products get it because you get them great products, with a few flaws and deliver on CONTENT.

The problem is that people who hire fancy pants publicists and go the traditional publishing route get caught in the corporate mentality. This way of thinking is dramatically different. And, in my opinion it is WRONG. Wrong from the standpoint of MAXIMIZING revenue.

The “suits” that advise people are obsessed with making things perfect before they start marketing. This is ONE of the reasons why they are in DEEP trouble right now.

Let me be clear. I will probably go after getting a book or two done with a traditional publisher but I still think that 90% of their marketing and thinking is MISguided. It has things assbackwards.

Lesson?

Get ‘er done. Larry the Cable Guy has it right. He is my new favorite philosopher. The more content that you crank out, the more intellectual property you’ll have to sell. The more you have to sell, the more you’ll make. The more you make the more you can spend (or GIVE).

So, Mr. Traditional Book Publishing Dude with a fancy pants publicist, GOOD LUCK! Come back to me when you’ve made very little money but have everything JUST RIGHT. i’d love to hear the story.

This guy is a perfect candidate to come to one of my Information Marketing Bootcamps. I’ll be waiting by the phone for him to call!! lol

Estate Planning Seminar Speaking Gig

August 3, 2007

Hi! I just got back from Reno where I spoke about information marketing to a group of estate planners, accounting types and financial planners. Great group. This event was run by Henry Abts and his staff at “The Estate Plan.” I was tremendously impressed by the integrity and professionalism of the group. They were very open to the idea that all of them had knowledge that could be transformed into dollars. Hopefullly I showed them how to do it. Information marketing is a key ingredient in building a group of highly qualified leads which is exactly what this group wanted to learn more about. The Estate Plan is the same group that has helped me to put together my own Living Trust. I TRUST them. What a great group and I highly recommend that if you are interested in avoiding probate and protecting assets, you should talk to these folks! Later, Fred

Dr. Albert Ellis

July 26, 2007

I was saddened to see that Dr. Albert Ellis died yesterday. I knew him and had been to his Institute in New York City MANY times. If you don’t know who he is, go read the article from the New York Times yesterday (http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Obit-Ellis.html?_r=1&oref=slogin). The way he ran his Institute is very similar to how I think any ethical information marketer should run their business. As opposed to most therapy, R.E.B.T., as he called his method gets people in, out and fixed very quickly. His system is not the type of therapy that will keep people coming back every week for the next 7 years. Information marketers should be doing the same thing. Get people in, train them on HOW to do things then get them going. Unfortunately, the vast majority of information marketers are more interested in making money than helping people. If you help people you’ll end up making money. More on Albert Ellis in one of my future Insights. See you later! Fred

Information Marketing “Gurus”

July 24, 2007

I’m just starting this blog. I’ll post to this FREQUENTLY. Insights (www.fredgleeck.com/ezine) will have much more extensive and detailed information. I just got an email from a guy asking me about yet another person who is doing an information marketing event. All I can say is that I can count on ONE HAND the number of people who I would even consider doing business with these days so be careful. Because the whole info marketing area has gotten so popular, there are a lot of people trying to take advantage of unsuspecting newbies so be careful. I’ll be starting a regular info marketing workshop which will be VERY different and limited to a group of 5 people or less. I’ll be talking more about that soon! See ya! Fred
