Brad blogged on the topic of “how to get rid of your followers” this week on the CDBaby blog. He said:
“It’s 2013, and the web-surfing public has lost nearly all patience for things on the web that don’t work/look/act right. They’re a fickle bunch, and they’re always one click away from ditching your site and never looking back.
This doesn’t mean you need to have a site that is a non-stop carnival of excitement that no human could possibly drag themselves away from, but it does mean you need to have a site that doesn’t leave people rolling their eyes, shaking their head, or rage-clicking their “back” button.”
I can tell you from experience that his comments are right on target. People are, for the most part, too busy and too distracted to give any one thing, especially a casual glance at an unknown webpage, much of their scarce attention span. It’s better to assume that your site visitors are super-distracted and make sure your sites will work for your information marketing business anyway.
I like to think about it this way – it’s like defensive driving. If you are out there on the road with music blaring and possibly taking on the phone while you’re driving, let’s face it, you’re distracted. You’re not alone in your distracted driving habits, either. Most drivers are distracted while driving now. It’s more common than not.
That’s how it works for your information marketing site visitors, too. They are ALL distracted, some more than others, and you have to remember that fact when you’re building your landing pages and websites.
