A Day in the Life of an Information Marketing Expert

Information Marketing

As a fairly visible face in the field of information marketing, I often will have people come up to me and ask me: “What does an average day look like for you?” If you sell information products, this is a relevant question. Everyone likes to model what others who are successful do. I do exactly the same thing myself with others.

The two biggest components of my day as it relates to the info marketing field are READING and WRITING. Thank God, there is limited ARITHMETIC!

The next question follows logically. What do I read and write. Here it is.

During the course of the day, I do a fair amount of ONLINE and OFFLINE reading. Online, I will go to Yahoo at least 3 or 4 times a day. I’ll then click on the “Most Popular” link to see what others are reading. I’ll usually then look under the TECH category. Most of the items there will have SOME relevance for my fellow information marketers.

I’ll also visit at least once a day, the sites belonging to: The New York Times, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the Financial Times.

Offline I am reading newspapers, magazines and books. I’ll often pick up either the NY Times or USA Today or both in physical form. On the magazine front I have subscriptions to: Wired, Entrepreneur, Time, and Entertainment Weekly (you can’t be ALL business ALL the time!).

On the book side, I’m usually reading at least one work of fiction an one work of non-fiction at any point in time. Right now I’m reading a Joseph Ellis book about George Washington. I have also started a book on time travel. It’s not in front of me and I’ve forgotten the title and author (this is NEVER a good sign with a book).

I will also do some TV watching everyday. The shows I watch regularly include: TMZ, The O’Reilly Factor, and every once in a while if I like the guest I’ll turn on either Jay Leno or David Letterman. Ellen Degeneres I’ll put on every once in a while if I have some down time during the afternoon hours.

With everything I do, I have my computer on and a notepad file open and ready to write down any BRILLIANT ideas that come to me as I’m either reading, writing or watching TV.

I’m not suggesting you do what I do, but for those of you who have an interest, there you have it!
