New Domains Available For Your Websites
I’ll let her describe it: “The launch of hundreds of new top-level domains, such as dot-app, dot-music, even dot-sucks, is only two months away, and skittish advertisers are bracing for a return to the Web’s Wild West days.
‘It’s going to be a bigger budget item for brand owners,’ warned Joanne Ludovici, a partner at McDermott Will & Emery, a Washington, D.C.-based law firm that represents brands and domain name registries. “It will be expensive and chaotic.”
Now, this may not seem all that important at first, but I assure you that I’m not interested in seeing a competitor or detractor purchase myname.sucks, and now that the concept is starting to sink in, I’m guessing you probably don’t like that idea too much either. Who would like it?
If you’re Coca Cola or Westinghouse you are already very much on task with this issue, or I should say your lawyers are on the task. But for the rest of us marketing information products on the web, it’s still a good time to think ahead and do any damage control as soon as the domains are available.
If you are nervous and want to get a jump on competition or back-stabbers, naturally there are plenty of providers willing to help you get started. I don’t know anything about the one linked here, it’s just an example.
